collective daily borrow limit on hoopla

If you’ve ever tried to borrow a title on Hoopla and received the above message telling you the Hoopla collective daily borrow limit has been reached, you may be wondering what it’s about.

Hoopla Collective Daily Borrow Limit refers to the total number of checkouts allowed by your library’s Hoopla users each day—not just your personal account.

Your library sets a daily lending budget limit in order to control their spending and budget. When you (or any other patron) borrow a title, your library is charged a certain amount for the title. Once the library lends enough titles to reach their spending limit, borrowing is turned off for the rest of the day. This limit applies to every patron, even if that patron has not borrowed throughout that day.

What Can You Do When Your Library Has Reached Its Hoopla Collective Daily Borrow Limit?

Your library’s Hoopla collective daily borrow limit resets every night at midnight. Until then, you can select a title and click the “favorites” heart. The item will be added to your favorites list so you won’t forget about it!

We recommend you borrow as early in the morning as possible, since the limit resets at midnight.

If you have any further questions regarding this issue, please reach out to your library.

Tips for Borrowing Smarter

  • Check your Hoopla borrowing limits and plan ahead.
  • Borrow earlier in the day to help avoid issues, since the limit resets at midnight.
  • When the collective daily borrow limit prevents you from borrowing a title, “favorite” it by clicking the heart. It will be added to your favorites list so you can find it right away the next day.
  • Don’t forget: Hoopla resets daily at midnight!

Monthly Lending Limits (Personal)

you have reached your monthly lending limit on hoopla

Your library sets a specific number of titles that each individual patron can borrow each month. Once you reach your personal lending limit, you will receive an error message stating that you have reached your monthly lending limit. On the first of every month, your number resets. Until then, you can select a title and click the “favorites” heart. The item will be added to your favorites list so you won’t forget about it!

Please note: Returning a title does not increase your borrow limit for the current month. Your borrow limit is a cumulative total for the month, and not a total you can have borrowed at any given time. Borrows don’t roll over from month to month under any circumstances. Your title is available for a set number of days regardless of when during the month your title was borrowed.

Why Are There Limits?

Borrowing limits help your library balance access and cost, ensuring everyone gets a fair chance to enjoy digital content.
