The narrative that rock music is out of style couldn’t be further from the truth. The proof is the fact that dozens of bands have released chart-topping albums this year. And there’s still a few more months to go, which means that we’ll likely be getting even more new rock music worth discussing. New or old, you can find your favorite artists across all genres streaming on Hoopla at no cost.
Who Created Rock Music?
The answer to this question may differ depending on whether you ask. Generally speaking, the invention of Rock music is thought of as an evolution of the Blues and Gospel music often performed by African Americans throughout the Mississippi Delta. As the popularity of artists like Chuck Berry, Sister Rosetta Thorpe and Little Richard grew, Cleveland-based radio DJ Alan Freed coined the term “Rock and Roll” when playing the albums on his nightly show where he’d play their music.
Is Metal a Subgenre of Rock?
Metal is thought of as a subgenre of rock. This particular subgenre continued the evolution of Rock music by adding a psychedelic twist which was displayed in the music of acts like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
