Fresh off her stunning performances at the Grammy Awards and on Bourbon Street in New Orleans before the NFL’s big game, Lady Gaga is back with release Mayhem. The new album includes the singles “Die with a Smile” with Bruno Mars and “Disease,” and it
is her first release of all-original material in five years.

She’s been far from idle during that time, however. Her most recent releases are related to her acting role as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux. In addition to performing on the album’s soundtrack, she also released Harlequin, a companion album of jazz standards.

Early Career

Gaga burst onto the music scene in 2008 with her debut album, The Fame, spurred by the hit tracks “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” She followed that with The Fame Monster in 2009, a double-album reissue that included “Bad Romance” as well as “Telephone”
featuring Beyoncé. It was The Fame Monster and her Monster Ball tour that led her fans to call themselves “Little Monsters.”

With both versions reaching multiplatinum status, Lady Gaga was now a bona fide superstar, but she wasn’t ready to coast. Her next album, Born This Way, released in 2011, just after her tour ended. Artpop followed two years later, toward the end of 2013.

Collaboration with Tony Bennett

In addition to Born This Way, 2011 was also the first year she worked with icon Tony Bennett, as they collaborated on a jazz version of “The Lady Is a Tramp.” They built on that relationship with a full album of jazz duets in 2014, Cheek to Cheek. In addition to a tour, they followed it up with a second album together, 2021’s Love for Sale.

Acting Dreams

In 2015, Gaga fulfilled a lifelong dream of acting, featuring in two seasons of American Horror Story (Hotel and Roanoke). Soon thereafter, in 2018, she would join Bradley Cooper in the remake of A Star Is Born; the soundtrack features the two performing together, and her song “Shallow” won the Academy Award for Achievement in Music.

With her acting career flourishing, she found a way to keep making music as well. Her next solo album, Joanne, released in 2016, and Chromatica in 2020. She also starred in House of Gucci with Adam Driver, and contributed a song and helped write the score for Top Gun: Maverick.

Lady Gaga has had a remarkable, varied career so far, winning 13 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, and the aforementioned Academy Award. Mayhem is the next step.
