Beatrice “Tris” Prior

Tobias “Four” Eaton

Though initially stoic and mysterious, he shows intelligence, resilience, and deep empathy, guiding Tris through her fears while staying principled, selfless, and fiercely loyal. 

Book 1: Divergent

Book 3: Allegiant 

Told through the perspectives of both Tris and Tobias, this third book follows them as they try to understand the complicated nature of humanity—and themselves. Along the way, they must face incredibly difficult choices about courage, loyalty, sacrifice, and love while navigating an uncertain future together. 

Four: The Transfer

Readers get to see Tobias’s aptitude test, experience his Choosing Day, and discover the moment he receives the famous nickname, “Four.”

Four: The Initiate 

A look at Tobias’s experience during Dauntless initiation, from a late-night game of Dare to getting his first tattoo. It also shows the start of his passion for training new initiates and his growing awareness of the dangers of being Divergent. 

Four: The Son 

Tobias tries to find where he truly belongs within the Dauntless ranks. As he adjusts to his new life, he begins to suspect a troubling plan forming among the leaders and uncovers a truth about his past that could change his future. 

Four: The Traitor 

Follow Tobias as he uncovers an Erudite plan that could threaten the faction system and begins making his own plans to protect Abnegation. Along the way, he also starts getting to know a new transfer initiate, Tris Prior. 

Free Four 

This pivotal scene from Divergent (chapter 13) is told from Tobias’s point of view during the knife-throwing moment. It reveals new details about Four’s character, his past, his initiation, and his thoughts about Tris Prior. 

We Can Be Mended 

This short-story epilogue takes place five years after the events of Allegiant. As Tobias struggles to move past his fears, Chicago has been rebuilt with many different groups living together. While others move forward, Tobias is still healing—but support from old friends helps him begin to find his place again.
