Q&A with Amy (Aidy) Award

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of your journey as an indie author?

A: The most rewarding part of being an author is the little notes I get from readers thanking me for writing these books. When readers say something about how these books make them feel seen, and helped them change their perspective on their own bodies or their own love lives…that’s my crack right there 100%!

Q: How do you engage with your readers and build a community around your books?

A: I really do want to hear from readers—it’s one of my favorite parts of being an author.

Social media is my jam! I try really hard to read all the messages I get and respond to as many as I can. I have a lovely Facebook group called Amy-Aidy’s Amazeballs and I’m active on Instagram and TikTok.

I also love to connect with readers on my newsletter. It’s where I share all news on new books, bonus chapters, sales, and giveaways. Plus readers get a free story from me when they sign up as my thank you for joining. For Amy fans, readers get a prequel story for the Kingmans, and for Aidy fans, readers get a couple of furree shifter novellas.

For those true super fans, I have a Patreon community where readers get the first look at all my books as I write them and can give me feedback as I write.

And, of course, whenever I can I love to connect with readers in person at signings and book events.

Q: Can you share any tips or advice for aspiring indie authors who are just starting out?

A: My advice is to have perseverance and find community.

I started out writing with lots of very talented authors who have all mostly disappeared now. This is a hard, hard, did I mention hard, business. Be prepared for a long haul filled with blood, sweat, and a lot of tears. But don’t quit! Just keep effing going!

And the way to keep going is to get yourself some writer friends! There are just certain things only other writers understand. It seems like this could be a lonely and solitary business, but it’s so much better and easier if you have people to commiserate with, learn from, and celebrate alongside.

Q: What are you currently working on, and what can readers expect from you in the future?

A: I’m working on the next book in the Cocky Kingmans series now! I can hardly wait for everyone to fall in love with bad boy Isak Kingman.

And I’ve been thinking it would be fun to do some follow-up stories for the brothers who are already with their queens. Perhaps some weddings?
