Why does Gargamel want the Smurfs, anyway?
In his first appearance, Gargamel was convinced that “Smurf” was an ingredient he needed to create an alchemical substance that would allow him to turn metal into gold. In other versions of the story, his reasons for trying to capture them vary. Sometimes he wants to eat them, and sometimes he just doesn’t like them.
As for why he captures Papa Smurf in the new movie…you’ll just have to watch and see! Check out Smurfs when it hits theaters in July, or find it in your library when it comes to home video.
