What Are Some Themes in the Chronicles of Narnia Series?
The story centers on good vs. evil, with Aslan representing hope and the White Witch standing for darkness. It reflects themes of sacrifice, redemption, and forgiveness, especially through Edmund’s story. Themes of courage, faith, and loyalty run strong, while Narnia’s shift from endless winter to life shows growth and change. It also shows how kids can be brave, wise leaders.
Who Are the Main Characters in the Narnia Books?

Aslan
Aslan is the king of Narnia. He is also a large, powerful lion. Aslan can be seen to symbolize a Christ-like figure (C.S. Lewis was an Anglican theologian) who is kind and benevolent, but also fierce and unpredictable.

The Pevensie Children
The series centers on four siblings, the Pevensies. Each child has a different reaction to finding the enchanted world that hides within the wardrobe, based on their very different personalities.

Peter Pevensie
The oldest sibling, Peter is a natural leader who is protective, brave, and dependable. As high king of Narnia, he grows from a big brother into a confident warrior. He has moments of pride, but learns from them, owns his mistakes, and stays loyal to Aslan and his responsibilities.

Susan Pevensie
The second-oldest sibling, Susan is practical, cautious, and kind, known as Queen Susan the Gentle. She’s the “mom” of the group and a skilled archer but often hesitates with risky adventures. Over time, she struggles to believe in magic and eventually drifts away from Narnia, focusing more on ordinary adult life (what Lewis refers to as “lipstick, nylons, and invitations”).

Edmund Pevensie
Edmund starts off as a moody, jealous kid who betrays his siblings, but he changes a lot over time. After being saved by Aslan, he grows into a wise, fair, and brave leader, known as King Edmund the Just. He learns from his mistakes and becomes a loyal, protective brother and strong ally.

Lucy Pevensie
Lucy, the youngest, is kind, brave, and full of faith. She’s even called Queen Lucy the Valiant. She’s the first to find Narnia and never stops believing in it or Aslan. Her compassion and honesty guide her siblings, and she often sees the truth even when no one else does.
